What is Sea Moss?
A History of Survival
During the Irish Potato Famine in the 1840s, sea moss became a crucial source of nutrition for the starving population. Known as "poverty food," it was boiled into soups to provide sustenance when crops failed.
Simultaneously, in the Caribbean, it has been used for centuries as a traditional remedy for libido, energy, and recovery, often brewed into a spiced drink with nutmeg and condensed milk.
The 92 Minerals
The human body is composed of 102 minerals. Sea moss is said to contain 92 of them. It is nature's most complete multivitamin.
Iodine
Thyroid Support
Magnesium
Muscle Function
Calcium
Bone Health
Potassium
Mental Health
Wildcrafted vs. Pool Grown
Wildcrafted (Real)
Grows naturally on rocks in the ocean. It absorbs minerals from the rock and the moving current. It is sun-dried, creating a natural color variation and thin, wiry texture.
Pool Grown (Fake)
Grown in tanks with added salt. It never touches a rock, so it lacks mineral density. It is often thick, rubbery, and smells of chemical chlorine or pure salt.
Thyroid Function
The thyroid gland requires iodine to produce hormones that regulate metabolism, energy, and mood. Sea moss is one of the most potent natural sources of iodine. For those with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), it can be a game-changer for energy levels.
Gut Health & Digestion
Sea moss is a mucilaginous food. When consumed, it coats the lining of the stomach and intestines. It acts as a powerful prebiotic, feeding the good bacteria in your gut. This can aid in digestion, reduce acid reflux, and promote regularity.
Skin & Collagen
Often called "vegan collagen," sea moss helps the body produce collagen, which maintains skin elasticity and prevents wrinkles.
- High in sulfur (good for acne)
- Hydrating (humectant properties)
- Soothes eczema and psoriasis
The Varieties
Gold
Sun-dried the longest. Mildest taste. Best for beginners and everyday use.
Purple
Dried in the shade. Higher in antioxidants (anthocyanins). Stronger ocean taste.
Green
High in chlorophyll. Excellent for blood detoxification. Earthy taste.
Preparation
Turning raw dried moss into a gel is a simple 3-step process:
Wash
Rinse thoroughly with spring water to remove sand and sea salt.
Soak
Soak in spring water with lime juice for 12-24 hours. It will expand 3x its size.
Blend
Blend with fresh spring water until smooth and creamy. Refrigerate immediately.
Dosage & Safety
Recommended Dosage: 1-2 tablespoons of gel per day.
Precaution: Because sea moss is high in iodine, those with hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) or sensitivity to iodine should consult a doctor before consuming. Consistency is key, but moderation is essential.
